Data Quality is always useful and needed. From the Importance of data perspective, Real time Mission Critical to less critical data, DQ is one important factor. Nobody wants to display incorrect, non-standard and incomplete data in their reports. Even for the underlying data (not represented in any reports), the data quality is always important.
ReplyDeleteKadhir,
ReplyDeleteAgreed it is important. I think there are a few factors which need to be addressed before DQ gets its proper place in the data management stack. One factor is monetization. In fact, until this has more rigor and can be defined, DQ will be looked at as a cost and be shelved.
The other factor that needs to be addressed is driving DQ to the edge of data collection. Until we deploy/implement DQ as a service, it is will remain a cost and be shelved. The final factor is to put DQ in the hands of the business. The trouble right now is DQ is too technically entrenched and does not get exposed to the business. Until you are a business problem you are going to be extra cost and, you guessed it, get shelved.
